Such failures usually make the disk unrecognizable in BIOS system. In this case, Maxtor disk are recognized by its factory alias such as: N40P, ATHENA, CALYPSO, ROMULUS, SABRE. This is more or less the case with other hard disk brands. If PCB or HDA is intact but disc is still undetectable in BIOS, the most common cause is a UBA failure.
