Evidence is labeled by a person who was the first to come into contact with such evidence. Such person puts his/her initials or full name on the case record, together with date, time and ID number of particular case.

There are two methods of evidence labeling: physical labeling of the very object or labeling of the paper attached to such object. The first method is by far the best and is applied whenever it is possible. Objects that cannot be physically labeled are put in a sealed bag which is then labeled. Label is usually written by a marker.
